T-3 Days: Slack Channel, Zoom Link & a Special Welcome to Our First-Time Hackathoners!

Hello Folks,

T-3 Days left until the start of the Climate Change-Makers Challenge!!

Well past expectations, we've had 160+ foks register thus far from 25+ countries & every habitable continent of the planet (minus the penguins of Antarctica)... And to see the wide range of skillsets that folks are bringing + the connections already being made on Devpost + the many great questions being asked all gets us SUPER-pumped for this Saturday!

Your three main organizers with be Alexx, Maryam & I representing the OATHE Project, the Youth Impact ChallengeEarthNet, and we are so thankful to the many incredible mentors + judges + partners + sponsors who've made this all possible

Now, Alexx will soon be sending a full schedule for our event & also for the 6+ optional-but-with-bonus-points-if-attending workshops we have going on this weekend.

In the meantime, THREE KEY THINGS to get y'all going:

  • JOIN US ON SLACK: This will be the heart of our event & is probably your most important to-do until Saturday... Make sure to join our Slack channel @ climate-changemakers.slack.com by clicking the unique invite link here.
  • TEAM MATCH-MAKING: Please fill the FORM HERE if needing to be matched with teammates, we'll do our best to help... Folks are encouraged to get in touch with each other via Slack & Devpost, and should let us know whenever you have made teams so that we can create a private Slack channel to faciltate organizer communications. And a reminder that we will also have a "Find-Your-Teammate Event" this Friday (Dec 2) @ 12 PM EST, REGISTER HERE if interested.
  • OPENING CEREMONY: Kicking off the hackathon will be our opening ceremony, starting this Saturday (Dec 3) @ 10 AM EST, link herehttps://us06web.zoom.us/j/89663725252?pwd=WFFnUmZMaisyWE1JaHhXbFVabmIyZz09 (will also send a calendar invite).. Folks may start work on their concepts at any point after Friday (especialy for folks out East)

And finally, a message for the 75% of you for whom this is their first-ever Depost hackathon: WELCOME!!

There is a first time for everything, and I still remember fondly my first-ever hackathon/ ideathon experience. And honestly, it was one of the most fun things I ever did & one that still gives me great pride, yet also super-scary at the time... To each of you who signed up as first-timers, perhaps motivated by a crisis that demands that we try things we have not done before, it took real guts to give this a shot. And while I cannot promise you that things will always be smooth this weekend, what we we will strive for is to try and help each of you in some way gain some thing- a piece of knowledge, a connection, a cool project or even just a bit of inspiration- to help you grow in your capacity as a climate innovator, for this weekend and beyond.

Folks, this isn't about who wins & loses in some final judgement, even if there will be some of that. It is about the fate of humanity and our one beautiful planet... And it's going to take ALL of us, newbies & experienced, people from every corner of the world, to address this existential threat as a global community. THANK YOU for giving up your weekends to join this challenge.

Let's come togehter to see what we can build. See y'all on the Slack!

With many thanks & kind regards,

Shitangshu
